PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The last few weeks have been devastating to the Houston community, and the Prairie View A&M University volleyball has shown their support through community service activities.
 
PVAMU's volleyball team and coaching staff partnered with the Crystal's Fight-Sickle Cell Anemia non-profit organization, the Cypress Ridge Lady Rams Volleyball Team and members of Hoop Jargon, a Houston based sports affiliate.  Members of the team visited two separate apartment communities in the Greenspoint area to give out toiletries, clothes, shoes, diapers and school supplies to those who were affected by Hurricane Harvey.  
 
Tyler, a former volleyball standout and PVAMU Sports Hall of Famer, partnered with alumni to assist in the community. PVAMU graduates Crystal Braziel form the Dallas area, Tamika Newman from Cy-Ridge, and Cliff Franks from San Antonio joined in to assist with the distribution of items, and the toiletry drive .
 
"Seeing the devastation of Harvey on national news is one thing, but being up close and personal is an entirely different perspective," Tyler said. "It was a humbling experiencing to provide a little relief for the families in need. Every day we take simple things like toiletries for granted, and being able to provide those type of items was heartwarming. One victim expressed to us that we were the first group that came to their area to assist and how thankful she was that we were there. It was an amazing experience for our team to bond together for a community in need."
