JACKSON, Miss. – The Prairie View A&M women's and men's basketball teams will look to get back in the win column in a Monday night doubleheader at Jackson State.
The women's game will tip at 5:30 p.m. and the men's game will begin around 7:45 p.m. The PVAMU Sports Network Broadcast will begin at 2:45 p.m. online at pvpanthers.com/sportsnetwork. The games can also be viewed online at pvpanthers.com.
In an overtime matchup PVAMU's women's basketball (4-11 overall, 2-2 SWAC) team dropped a heartbreak game to Grambling State 81-79. Shala Dobbins led both teams in scoring with 35 points, shooting 21 of 27 from the free throw line. She also had nine rebounds, seven assists, and made five steals in the game.
Dominique Newman added 22 points, four rebounds, and six steals in the contest, while Talisha Presley posted 10 points for the second time this season, while also pulling down three rebounds and a steal.
Jackson State (8-6 overall, 3-2 SWAC) fell out of first place Saturday after dropping their game to the defending champion Texas Southern 77-74. Christina Ellis led all players with 27 points, adding five rebounds and four steals for Jackson State.
In men's play, the Panthers (5-13, 2-2) dropped an 80-71 game at Grambling. PVAMU had its worst shooting game of the season, knocking down just over 30 percent of its shots (20-66), including only making four of 24 from three-point range.
Gary Blackston led four Panthers in double figures with 12 points, while Zachary Hamilton and Austin Starr each scored 11. J.D. Wallace recorded his second career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 17 rebounds.
Jackson State (8-10, 5-0) has sole possession of first place in the SWAC and is one of only two teams undefeated in conference play (UAPB 4-0). In a battle of the unbeaten in league play, JSU defeated Texas Southern 85-80 in overtime Saturday night.
