Track and Field Close Out Weekend at U of H Invite

HOUSTON, Texas – The Prairie View track and field teams concludes the University of Houston Invitational and Multi's on Saturday at the Yeoman Field House.
 
The women's team opened the day with the 60 meter hurdles. Deonca Bookman placed seventh with a time of 8.70.  In the 400 meters, Husniyyah Rogers earned second place, for the Lady Panthers as she finished with a decent time 58.29. Rogers also ran the 800 meters along with her three other teammates Noelia Rodriguez, Alana Williams and Alysse Grogan. Rodriguez placed 12th with 2:23.60, Willams placed 15th with 2:24.13, Rogers got 16th with 2:25.34 and Grogan finishing behind, Rogers for the 17th spot concluding her time with 2:25.99.
 
In the 200, the Lady Panthers showed some light as Mia Robinson finished fourth winning her heat with a time of 25.67. Robinson had a few of her teammates behind her such as JayRielle Joseph with an eighth place finish on a time of 26.00 and Alicia Carter placing 10th with a time of 26.10.
 
Nekiesha Bailey ended the Lady Panthers meet with a first place win in high jump. Bailey jumped 1.75 meters to edge out her competition in the end.
 
On the Men's side, Tristen Ham and Sunne Weems finish second and third in the Heptathlon. Ham and Weems made a big push in the 60 meter hurdles and pole vault earning first and second in the 60 meter hurdles and again for pole vault to earn their overall finish. Logan Williams made a push in the 60 meter hurdles to finish fifth with a time of 8.18. Samuel Omoera placed a sixth place finish with a time of 6.81 this his personal best. 
 
In addition, Brandon Kirby and Yaw Sekyere both competed in the 400 meters. Kirby grabbed second place in a close finish at 50.34, while Sekyere placed fourth place with 51.26. William Polley, Carl Jordan, Ansar Richardson and Sydney-Holt Washington all competed in the 200. Polley won the 200 with a time of 21.91, Jordan grabbed third for panthers with a time of 22.86, Richardson earned the fourth place spot with 23.09 and Washington placed fifth with a time of 23.24.
 
The Men's team ended their meet with a first place finish in the 4x400 with a time 2:21.00. The team consisted of Kirby, Jordan, Williams and was anchored by Polley.
 
The teams will return to action at the Texas Tech Invite to begin the month of February.
