Missed Opportunities Hurts Soccer in Loss to UAPB

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Despite a back-and-forth affair at Pumphrey Stadium Sunday afternoon, the Prairie View A&M soccer team came out on the short end of a 1-0 decision against the Lady Golden Lions of Arkansas Pine Bluff.

"In the first half there were some moments that we found some gaps, but not enough quality shots on goal," said head PVAMU soccer coach Sonia Curvelo.  "We need to work on more quality shots on goal.  We are going to be looking at moving some players around, maybe just to be able to have more shots on goal.  At the end of the day I think we gave up a real difficult shot.  We need to manage more on our defense end.  We have to score a goal at the end of the day or score goals to win."

The Lady Panthers missed out on several opportunities to score, and surrendered what became the game-winning goal to the Lady Golden Lions late in the second half.

UAPB scored in the 63rd minute to give the Lady Golden Lions the win off a corner kick.  Statistically, the match was a close one, with Lady Panthers having 12 shots with seven on goal, while UAPB had 17 shots and 10 on goal.

"We haven't scored a goal in the last two games on the road and I know it's a lot more challenging to score goals on the road," Curvelo said.  "I still think with the players that we have some things will have to change.  We are definitely going to have to make a push, especially going into next Friday's game."

The Lady Panthers return to action on Friday, Oct. 19 when they travel to Lorman, Miss. for a 4 p.m. matchup against Alcorn State.
