PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – In a notably physical game, Prairie View A&M soccer defeated defending Southwestern Athletic Conference champ Alabama State, 1-0.
"This was such a critical win for us tonight," said first year head PVAMU soccer coach
Sonia Curvelo. "Alabama State was 4-0 and it's so important that we collected these points. We really dominated in this game, and I was really happy to see the players really shine today. I know with moments like the last two minutes of the game Blair (Lane) stepping up and kicking the ball in the back of the goal. It's good to know she has to confidence to step up and make the goal as well. The whole team is excited about tonight's win and that's something we should be happy about."
Junior
Blair Lane notched her fourth goal of the season in the 88
th minute of the game on a penalty kick to give the Lady Panthers a well-earned win. As a team, PVAMU out-shot the Lady Hornets 18-13. Junior
Jojo Bernal took five shots with four on goal, while Lane also took five shots and the goal for the Lady Panthers.
Goal keeper freshman
Quinn Josiah earned her third career shutout, earning five saves over 90 minutes.
"It was great to come through with a win in front of our fans during the home stretch of the season," Curvelo said. "We are definitely hoping to carry this momentum through Sunday's game. Alabama A&M is another team that was 4-0 coming in to the weekend. It's going to be another great team that we will have to face. Our players will be ready. I think this was a huge win for us, but a build up to where our program is going. I am very happy with the mindset of each player."
Sunday afternoon the Lady Panthers will host the Bulldogs of Alabama A&M for a 1 p.m. contest.
