EDINBURG, Texas - The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team lost at Texas Rio Grande Valley 70-57 Wednesday night.
 
Gerard Andrus scored a game-high 18 points and added eight rebounds and two steals for the Panthers (1-2). Taishaun Johnson scored points10. Devante Patterson scored four points with a game-high 11 rebounds.
 
It was a cold-shooting night for the Panthers, who shot just over 31 percent from the field (22-70). There were three ties early in the game, as PVAMU led for most of the first 10+ minutes of the game. UTRGV (3-1) took the lead for good with nine+ minutes to play in the first half in taking a 38-28 halftime lead.
 
Prairie View A&M cut its deficit to six at 42-36 less than three minutes into the second half on a putback by Andrus. However, an 11-2 run by UTRGV over the next 4+ minutes increased the lead to 15 at 53-38 with just over 11 minutes remaining. The Panthers cut the deficit to nine but could get no closer.
 
PVAMU returns to action Saturday in a 2 p.m. game at Lamar, which can be viewed live on ESPN3.com.
