Women's Basketball Heads to Colorado for Mid-Week Match Up

12/11/2018 2:07:00 PM

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M women's basketball will take on Colorado Wednesday, at 8 p.m. CT in Boulder, Colorado at the CU Event Center.

The game can be viewed at https://pac-12.com/live/cubuffs; live stats are available as well.

"This is an exciting time for Prairie View A&M women's basketball," said PVAMU head women's basketball coach Sandy Pugh.  "As we continue to grow, we must begin to execute our half-court offense.  Individual players are learning their roles and each other.  Although we gave up way too many free throws last week, we saw some good things in our last outing.  We must continue to execute, but we must eliminate those mental errors, which keeps us from closing out games on a positive note."

This will be the first meeting between the Panthers and the Buffaloes.  With the recent 68-58 loss to Rice this past Saturday , PVAMU fell to 3-3 on the season.  Senior Artavia Ford led the team with a season high 18 points, three rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot. Senior guard Shala Dobbins followed with 11 points.  Dobbins, who leads the team in scoring, averages 13.3 ppg, while Ke'Asia Williams leads the Panthers on the boards averaging 7.0 rebounds per contest.

Colorado enters Wednesday's contest the owner of an 8-1 record, including a pair of wins against San Jose State (76-64) and Navy (59-43).

Kennedy Leonard has paced the Colorado offense, averaging 15.6 points per game, while Mya Hollingshed, has averaged a team-high 7.0 rebounds per game.

"Colorado is a really good team, probably the best team we have faced thus far," Pugh said. "They push the ball in transition and shoot the three very well.  We like the tempo, but we must force turnovers, guard the perimeter and rebound against a bigger foe."
