PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M basketball teams look to bounce back from tough outcomes when the teams return to action hosting Jackson State Monday night in the William J. Nicks Building.
The Lady Panthers (8-14 overall, 6-5 SWAC) and Panthers (9-16, 6-5) are looking for wins Monday in the final game of a three-game homestand before playing four of the next six games on the road to conclude the regular season.
Monday's doubleheader is the Whiteout Game against Jackson St. and has a special start time of 5 p.m. with a live video stream on pvpanthers.com/sportsnetwork. At the conclusion of the women's game around 7 p.m., the PVAMU baseball, golf, softball, tennis and track and field teams will greet fans and distribute schedule posters. At 8 p.m., men's basketball will play live on ESPNU.
In a down to the wire matchup the Lady Panthers fell over the course of the last few minutes to the Grambling State Lady Tigers 75-68.
Shala Dobbins paced the Lady Panthers in scoring with 21 points in 37 minutes of action.
Talisha Presley added 14 points on 54 percent shooting from the floor.
La'Neique Nealey registered her second double-double of the season tallying 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Jackson State (12-9, 7-5) sits in the number four spot in the SWAC after falling to Texas Southern 71-66. Marneisha Hamer led the Lady Tigers with 15 points, while Derica Wiggins came off the bench adding 12 points.
The Panther men are looking to rebound from a 90-85 loss to Grambling State, which ended a four-game winning streak for Prairie View A&M. Despite Saturday's loss, PVAMU is only two games out of first place.
Gary Blackston scored a team-high 25 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Zachary Hamilton scored 19 points with five rebounds.
Dennis Jones scored 13 points and added seven assists. J.D. Wallace scored nine points and had his second straight double-digit rebound game with 11 boards while also tallying three blocks.
PVAMU shot 49.2 percent from the field (30-61), 30.4 % from three-point range (7-of-23), and 64.3% from the free-throw line (18-28). It was the first time in five games the Panthers did not shoot above 50 percent from the field
After opening SWAC play with six straight conference wins, Jackson State (10-15, 7-5) has lost five of its last six games. The Tigers lost at Texas Southern 86-75 Saturday night. Jeremiah Jefferson scored 25 points, and Maurice Rivers scored 21 off the bench. Rivers is 11th the SWAC in scoring (13.3 ppg.) and tied for ninth in rebounds (5.3 rpg.)
