BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Prairie View A&M men's and women's indoor track and field teams travel to Birmingham, Ala., to compete in the 2018 Indoor Championships Thursday, Feb. 15 and Friday, Feb. 16 at the Birmingham Crossplex.
Last season, the Lady Panthers finished third behind the defending champions Alabama State and second place Texas Southern. The Panthers had a fourth place finish, behind defending champs Alabama State, Grambling and Texas Southern.
Reigning champion in the high jumps was sophomore Nekiesha Bailey (1.78) who will be defending her crown, as well senior Deonca Bookman who will defending her first place finish in the 60m hurdles (8.49). Both of these ladies had an opportunity to participate in the NCAA Regionals held at the University of Texas last season.
Sophomore Sunne Rodriguez-Weems will look to defend his crown in the men's Pole Vault after vaulting a career high of 4.75m.
The event will feature all 10 schools from both the men's and women's teams. Thursday's events will begin with the women's Pentathlon with an 8:30 a.m. start. The men's Heptathlon will start at 8:50 a.m., and the field events beginning at 1 p.m. with the weight throw.
At noon the first action in the running events will start with the women's 3000m. The preliminary track events will be taking place at 3 p.m. with the 60m women's hurdles.
