PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M basketball teams will conclude the regular season on the road still in the chase for Southwestern Athletic Conference regular season titles.
Panther Basketball will play at Alcorn State Thursday in a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader, and at Southern Saturday in a 3 p.m. doubleheader. All games can be heard at pvpanthers.com/sportsnetwork.
Women's basketball (13-14 overall, 11-5 SWAC) is two games behind Southern (13-3) and one game behind Texas Southern and Grambling St. (both teams 12-4). Texas Southern will host Southern Thursday night, and a Southern win would give the Jaguars at least a share of the regular season crown and eliminate PVAMU from title contention.
The Lady Panthers, who have clinched a top four seed and will host a SWAC Tournament first-round game Tuesday in the William J. Nicks Building, currently having the tie breaker over both Southern (winning 69-62 on Jan. 3) and Texas Southern (sweeping the season series 2-0), but do not against Grambling St. (0-2 vs. GSU).

Shala Dobbins is averaging 21.8 points per game and continues to close in on the NCAA single-season records for free throws made (280) and attempted (353). Dobbins currently has made 257 of 324 free throws (79.3%) this season.
Men's basketball (13-17, 10-6) is ½ game behind in the race for the number one tournament seed and one game behind Grambling for the regular season title. Grambling is ineligible for postseason play but can still win the regular season title. The Panthers can clinch a SWAC Tournament first-round home game Thursday night with a win and a Jackson State loss at Alabama St.
Grambling St. (11-5) leads the league by one half game over Arkansas-Pine Bluff (11-6) and one full game ahead of the Panthers, Texas Southern, and Southern (all three teams 10-6). The Panthers lose the tie breaker against Grambling (0-2 record in season series) and UAPB (1-1 season record; PV -1 in point differential), but win the tiebreaker over Southern and Texas Southern (1-1 season record; PV + 8 in point differential). Texas Southern plays at Southern Thursday night, Grambling State is at Alabama A&M, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff is off Thursday night before closing the regular season hosting Miss. Valley State Saturday.
The Panthers defeated Alcorn St. (11-18, 7-9) 76-64 in the SWAC opener for both teams on Jan. 1.
