TOP SEED SCENARIOS: Heading into Saturday's 3 p.m. doubleheader regular-season finale at Southern (live broadcast at pvpanthers.com/sportsnetwork), both Panther basketball teams have a chance to earn #1 seeds in the SWAC Tournament. Earning the top seed in the SWAC Tournament also ensures a bid in the postseason NIT Tournament if the team does not win the SWAC Tournament.
Â
Women's Basketball: The Lady Panthers (12-5 SWAC) are tied with Grambling (12-5), with both teams one game behind co-leaders Southern and Texas Southern (13-4).
Â
PVAMU earns the top seed Saturday with:
- A win at Southern, AND
- A Texas Southern loss at Alcorn St.,
Â
In this scenario, PVAMU, Southern and Texas Southern would all be 13-5. The Lady Panthers would win the tie-breakers by virtue of best record among tied teams. Prairie View A&M would be 4-0 combined (2-0 vs. TSU, 2-0), while Southern and Texas Southern would both be 1-3.

PVAMU also wins a four-way tie-breaker with the above scenario AND a Grambling win at Alabama State. In this scenario, the Lady Panthers would have the best head-to-head record among the four tied teams (PVAMU 4-2, TSU 3-3, GSU 3-3, SU 2-4.)
Â
Men's Basketball: The Panther men (11-6) are currently in a three-way tie for second place with UAPB and Texas Southern in the standings. All three teams are one game behind Grambling (12-5), which has clinched at least a share of the regular season title but is ineligible for postseason play.
Â
The Panthers can clinch a share of the regular season title with:
- A win over Southern, AND
- A Grambling loss at Alabama St.
Â
Regardless of the Grambling game result, the Panthers can clinch the #1 seed in the tournament with:
- A win over Southern, AND
- An Arkansas-Pine Bluff loss to Miss. Valley State
Â
