PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - The PVAMU softball team fell to Alabama State 17-8 in the opening game of the three game series on Friday afternoon at the PVAMU Softball Complex.

The Lady Hornets started strong, scoring five runs on five hits in the top of the first inning. The Lady Panthers scored a run during their turn at the plate, as
Shelby Williams doubled down the left field line, later scoring on an error, ending the bottom half with ASU having a 5-1 lead.

Alabama State added two more runs on one hit and a fielding error. PV responded by scoring three runs during their half of the inning.
Destinee Williams singled to center field allowing S. Williams and
Day'Zjah Pennywell to score.
Kylar Ward-Flowers also singled scoring D. Williams to make the score 7-4 at the conclusion of two innings.

Alabama State responded once again during their half of the third scoring seven times on five hits. The Lady Panthers registered one hit but were unable to bring any runners home. At the end of three PVAMU trailed 14-4. ASU scored again in the top half of the fifth to give them an eleven run advantage. The Panthers cut into the lead by scoring four runs in the inning.
Alyssa Garcia brought home
Kelsey Coronado. Ward-Flowers crossed home plate on a fielding error by the Lady Hornet. Garcia scored on a S. Williams double into right center field to make the final score 15-8.

The Lady Panthers will return to the field for doubleheader action, when they face Alabama State in the two of the three game series with a noon start Saturday, at the PVAMU Softball Field.
