PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M baseball team tops Southern 9-8 in 10 innings on Saturday afternoon at Tankersley Field in the second of the three game series.
Corbin Jamison had four hits and four RBI's on the day and hit the walk off single in the bottom of the 10th inning.
Jamison put the Panthers on the board in the bottom of the first, and would steal second and third base before scoring on a
Daniel Lingua groundout, closing out the frame with a 1-0 lead over the Jags.
Southern scored the game's next three runs taking a 3-1 advantage as the game went into the bottom of the sixth inning. The Panthers got back on the board scoring one run in the bottom of the sixth. Jamison tripled into right center field to lead off the inning. Jamison scored again, but this time on a
Jalyn Baker groundout, to close in on the SU lead trailing 3-2.
The Jaguars added four more runs in the seventh inning to take a 7-2 advantage. But PV responded scoring four runs in the bottom of the frame.
Steven Williams singled to center and
Andrew Garcia was hit by a pitch to put two runners on base.
Tyler Gordon reached base on a throwing error to load the bases for PVAMU.
Avery Williams walked to bring S. Williams home. Jamison doubled into left field bringing home three runners to again close in on the Jags with a 7-5 lead at the end of seven innings of play.
The Panthers added two more runs on two hits in the eighth inning to knot the game at 7-all.
Ezekiel Bear walked, advancing to second base on a
Brashad Jones groundout. S. Williams singled into left field which allowed Bear to score. Garcia was hit by a pitch, moving to second after Gordon was walked loading the bases.
Tracy Warren singled allowing S.Williams to score. At the end of eight innings the Panthers led 8-7
Southern tied the game in the ninth inning on a wild pitch with two outs. PVAMU was unable to score in the bottom of that frame.
The Panthers kept the Jaguars off the board in the top of the tenth, as Garcia started the inning by singling to second base. Gordon moved Garcia to take his next base after a sacrifice bunt.
Xavier Jefferson grounded out to second base, but Garcia advanced to third base. Jamison ended the game with a single to center field that allowed Garcia to score and the Panthers to be successful.
The Panthers return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. to finish the three game series with Southern University.
