NEW ORLEANS, La. – The No.2 seeded Prairie View A&M women's tennis team started on the right foot in its Southwestern Athletic semifinal match Saturday against No. 5 Alcorn State, but fell in a 4-3 thriller match to conclude the 2018 season.
The Lady Panthers duo of
Neharika Rama with Contanza Aranguiz claimed a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles, and the team of
Shaddae Findley and
Tatiana Ruhl worked their way to a 6-1 victory at the No. 2 doubles to earn the first point for PVAMU.
Rama did her best to keep the momentum going into single play, winning her sets 7-5, 6-3 at the No. 2 position to advance the Lady Panthers to a 2-0 lead.
At the No. 4 singles position, Aranguiz swept to a 6-2, 6-4 win over Alcorn's Klavdija Bukovec to earn a 3-0 lead over the Lady Braves. At the No. 1 position
Stacy Lackey won her first set 7-5, but it wasn't enough as she dropped the next two sets 6-1, 6-3 to Bianca Birkenstock of the Lady Braves.
PVAMU's Jimena Castellanos fell at No. 3 position to Alssandra Maganuco, 6-0, 7-6, to make it a 3-2 match. Findley fell at the No. 5 position to Anastasia Vaganova 6-1, 6-2, who tied the game at 3-3.
The deciding and determining set went to Alcorn when Marlene Maier outlasted
Timara Maxwell at the No. 6, 6-1, 7-6 to advance to championship round.
