BATON ROUGE, La. – The Prairie View A&M University volleyball team swept Jackson State 3-0 on Sunday to conclude the SWAC West Roundup with a winning record.
The Panthers beat Jackson State 25-17, 25-21, 25-23 in the final match of the weekend. Prairie View A&M had a season-high .294 hitting percentage for the match, highlighted by a .366 average in the opening set.
"Today was a dominant win, without a doubt," said PVAMU head coach Tacho Tyler. "The team played with high energy, discipline, and intensity. We hit our highest percentage this season, while also minimizing errors. Our blocking was on point as well. We were in control the entire match, and it was great to see us put every aspect of the game together for the sweep."
Alyssa Cataldo had a game-high 22 assists and six digs, and
Erica Jimenez added 19 assists with three kills and two digs.
Jaylan Thomas and
Victoria Pearson each had 10 kills.
Tamaira Armstrong had 17 digs and
Christen Augustine had 10 digs for the Lady Panthers.
Prairie View A&M completed the weekend 3-2 and returns to action Tuesday at McNeese at 6 p.m.
"This win was a confidence booster and should set the tone for the rest of the season," Tyler said. "One game at a time is how we have to approach it, and getting better after each match is still the key."
