BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Prairie View A&M soccer team virtually swept this weeks Southwestern Athletic Conference soccer honors, as senior forward Diana Neff, freshman defender Andrea Nugent and sophomore goalkeeper Quinn Josiah were all recognized as players of the week for their efforts versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Grambling State.
The league office announced the awards earlier this afternoon.
Neff led the Lady Panthers on her way to SWAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors, making the most of her three shots on goal. The Vista, Calif. native scored a goal in each of the wins over UAPB and the Lady Tigers, pushing her season total to eight. The senior forward is tied for second in the conference in goals scored.
Nugent won SWAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in her collegiate career. The Victorville, Calif. native anchored the Lady Panthers defensive efforts, while taking two shots on goal in shutout victories over both UAPB and Grambling State during the course of the weekend.
Nugent was an integral part in holding the conference's leading goal scorer -- UAPB's Sarah Wright -- without a quality look on goal as well as keeping the clamps on a Lady Tigers team that entered the weekend with a top-3 scoring offense in terms of goals per game.
Josiah continued her stellar play as she picked up SWAC Goalkeeper of the Week honors. The Newmarket, Ontario, Canada native registered 180 minutes over the weekend, shutting out both UAPB and Grambling State with nine saves. Josiah has shut out four teams in the past two weeks.
The Panthers, who are currently on a six-match winning streak has clinched the No. 2 seed in the SWAC Women's Soccer Tournament, return to action Friday as they host arch-rival Texas Southern.
