BOX SCORE 2 BATON ROUGE, La. – The 3-0 Prairie View A&M SWAC Championship softball team notched two more wins on day two of the Chef Celeste Softball Challenge on Saturday.
Game 1
PVAMU 13, NCCU 2
The Lady Panthers opened the day with a 13-2 win over North Carolina Central to extend their win streak to two, ending the game in five innings.
PVAMU scored three runs in the first inning, beginning with senior
Shelby Williams ho singled to second base. S. Williams stole base, before senior
Destinee Williams singled down the left line and S. Williams advancing to third. Prior to junior
Alyssa Garcia grounded out to the short stop D. Williams stole second. S. Williams scored on Garcia's ground out to give the Lady Panthers their first run. D. William advanced to third on the same play. Senior
Laurisa Hernandez was hit by pitch, before freshman
Megan Jimenez double to center field scoring both Hernandez and D. Williams to put the Lady Panthers ahead 3-0.
PVAMU dominated in the third inning, racking up a total of 10 runs in the frame. D. Williams, Garcia, Hernandez, Jiminez,
Cameron Lavergne each had one or more hits in the inning.
Despite two late runs from NCCU in the fifth inning, the Panthers were able to walk away with the 13-2 victory.
Jimenez was 2-2 and had a team high of five RBI. D. Williams also had a good day with the bats as she went 3-3 and had two RBI
Game 2
PVAMU 5, Southern 1
In the night cap the Lady Panthers earned their third win of the tournament and of the season with a 5-1 victory over host team Southern.
In the bottom half of the third inning freshman
Diavionne Dewalt doubled to left center. S. Williams grounded out to the pitcher advancing Dewalt to third. D. Williams singled to left center scoring Dewalt for the first score of the game.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Dewalt singled to the shortstop to get on base first. Stealing second prior to S. Williams singling to the catcher advancing Dewalt to second. S. Williams stole second, before junior
Natalie Mclennan flied out to right field on a sac-fly bringing in both Dewalt and S. Williams for a 3-0 lead over SU.
Southern scored their one run in their top half of the sixth, before Hernandez reached base on an error in the bottom frame and advancing to second in the same segment.
Kaila Lee singled to the shortstop advancing the runner to third. A double to right field from junior
Gabrielle Fonseca allowed both sophomore
Brianna Grays, who replaced Lee on the bag, and freshman
Jayla Richard (who replaced Hernandez) scored for the final runs of the game.
The Lady Panthers will finish out the tournament when they face Alabama State on Sunday, Feb. 10 for a 9 a.m. first pitch.
