BATON ROUGE, La. - The Prairie View A&M baseball team finished their three-game series against Southern 2-1 after winning the first game on Friday, then dropping both games in doubleheader action on Saturday.

Daniel Lingua was the first to get on base for the Panthers, after a single to right field in the opening frame. Following a sac bunt by junior
Tyler Gordon, freshman
Alex Martinez doubled to left field to bring in Lingua for the team's 1-0 lead.
Southern scored their first run in the first inning to tie the game at 1-1. The second inning was scoreless, before the Jaguars added a second run to take a 2-1 advantage.
The Panthers brought the sticks out in their half of the fourth. The first run that came across home plate was from junior
Xavier Jefferson, as he reached first base on a single up the middle. Junior
Andrew Garcia moved Jefferson to third after hitting a single to left center. With runners on each corner a passed ball allowed both players to advance to their next base allowing Jefferson to score.
The Panthers extended the score to knot the game at 2-2, before sophomore
Demarie Smith tripled down the right field line scoring Garcia. Lingua singled to left field, but reached third on an error, allowing Smith to come home for a third straight score. During Lingua's at bat he singled to left field, advancing to second on an error to score Smith, to take a 4-2 lead. Gordon reached base on a walk, having runners on both first and second. Martinez grounded out, but scored Lingua in the process and advancing Gordon to second. A double down the left field line by junior
Dalton Horner scored Gordon as the Panthers took 6-2 lead over Southern.
PVAMU scored a trio of runs in their half of the fifth, after a pitching change by the Jaguars. Junior
Avery Williams opened with a home run down the left field line, to extend the team's lead 7-2. Garcia followed with a single to center field, as Smith reached base on a walk. A single through left field by Gordon led to Smith advancing to second and running to third on the throw. Garcia crossed the base, before Gordon stole base and Smith coming home due to throwing error to extend the lead 9-2.
Southern scored three more runs in both the sixth and seventh, before the Panther's final run of the game came in the eighth inning, as Martinez was able to make it home on a single to left field from Horner.
Jefferson led with three hits on five at bats. Horner and Martinez gathered two RBI apiece. Sophomore pitcher
Brian Williams took the win with eight hits allowed on 30 batters faced.
PVAMU, 4 -- SU, 26
In game two of the three game series the Panthers fell 26-4 to Southern.
In the first inning, a double to right center field from Martinez brought in Lingua, who singled to left field prior to Martinez's at bat. Martinez doubled to right center to score Lingua for the team's first home touch of the game. Sophomore
Calvin Rucker singled to right field, allowing Martinez to come home and close out the frame with a 2-0 lead.
The Jaguars took a 6-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth and added two more runs in the third to extend their lead 8-2.
Jefferson opened the fourth inning with a double to left field to begin the base running for the Panthers. A. Williams homered to left field for the double RBI, and the team's final runs of the game.
Garcia and Jefferson had two hits apiece. A. Williams led with 2 RBI.
PVAMU, 5 -- SU, 8
In the final game of the series the Panthers got on the boards first with Lingua singling to left field to open the game. On a sac ground out by Gordon Lingua advanced to second base, before Martinez homered to left field for a double RBI and an early 2-0 lead.
The Jaguars knotted the game at 2-2 in their half of the first and added a third run in the bottom of the third.
Jefferson reached base first for the Panthers with a walk, before stealing base to place himself on second. A. Williams was also walked placing runners on both first and second. Garcia loaded the bases with a single bunt, before the Jaguars made a pitching change. Smith reached base on a fielder's choice keeping the bases loaded. Lingua grounded our shifting the runners, that allowed A. Williams to come home tying the game 3-3.
Southern extended their lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the fifth. Both teams were scoreless going into the seventh. After another pitching change Lingua opened the inning with a triple, before Gordon reached base on a hit by pitch as runners were posted on each corner. Martinez was also hit by pitch loading the bases, before the Jaguars made another pitching change. With the bases loaded Rucker grounded out to second base scoring Lingua first for the lone run.
Southern added two more runs in their half of the seventh. The Panthers struck again in the top half of the eighth on a Garcia walk to begin the frame. On a ground out by Smith Garcia advanced to third. Lingua singled to left center adding the fifth and final run for the Panthers.
Lingua went 4-4, connecting every time at bat. Martinez and Lingua both had two RBI apiece.
Next, the Panthers will face Texas A&M - Corpus Christi on Tuesday, April 2 at 6 p.m., in Corpus Christi, Texas.
