NEW ORLEANS, La. — The Prairie View A&M baseball team fell to Alabama State in the opening round of the 2019 SWAC Baseball Tournament on Wednesday at the Wesley Barrow Stadium.
The Panthers got on the board in the fourth inning, as a home run by junior Dalton Horner for the first score of the game for PVAMU.
The team earned their second run in the top of the fifth inning, when a fly out to center field from senior Daniel Lingua allowed sophomore Demarie Smith to touch home plate and cut the deficit to 5-2.
There were runners on second and third base in the seventh inning, when a single RBI to left center by Lingua allowed Smith to advance to third and pushing junior Andrew Garcia across home plate for the score. In the next play, junior Tyler Gordon singled to left field and brought in Smith for a 8-4 score.
The Panthers were down 10-4 going into the eighth inning, and weren't able to post runs in the final two innings closing out with the 11-4 loss.

The Panthers will open round two of the SWAC tournament when they face #3 seed in the east Alcorn State at 9 a.m., at the Wesley Barrow Stadium in New Orleans, La.
