PRAIRIE VIEW - The Prairie View A&M bowling team opens up the winter portion of its 2019-2020 slate by heading to Las Vegas for the Stormin' Blue & White Vegas Classic as hosted by Mount St. Mary's this weekend.
"This is the first tournament after the break and I'm interested in seeing how we compete as we get closer to conference competition," said head PVAMU Bowling Coach Glenn White. This gives us an opportunity to gage our progress."
The Lady Panthers will be a part of history, as this marks the first ever NCAA bowling competition held in Las Vegas.
Coming in with a No. 25 ranking during the debut National Tenpin Coaches Association poll released in December, the reigning Southwestern Athletic Conference champions are part of a challenging field stocked with national title contenders. Along with the Lady Panthers, the 15-team field features 10 other teams ranked in the NTCA's top 25 poll, with four of those teams among the top five: No. 1 McKendree, No. 2 Sam Houston State, No. 3 Nebraska and No. 5 Vanderbilt.
Also set to compete are No. 8 Stephen F. Austin, No. 13 and host Mount St. Mary's, No. 14 Delaware State, No. 15 Maryville, No. 16 Tulane, No. 23 Monmouth, Valparaiso, Texas Southern and Grambling State.
The Lady Panthers are coming off a consistent fall schedule highlighted by a top five finish among a loaded field at the Bearcat Hammer Opener and three wins over ranked opponents: Delaware State and No. 11 Louisiana Tech.
Freshman Patricia Rosales has been very impressive in her maiden campaign, ranking 30th nationally in average pin fall (198.81) with a single-game high of 254. Sophomore Crystal Cline has fared well during competition as well, boasting a 184.21 pin fall average, and sophomore Asia Wren is in the midst of a solid campaign, averaging a pin fall of 176.38.
