PRAIRIE VIEW – The Prairie View A&M women's basketball (1-0) hits the road for a pair of mid-major tilts at the South Padre Island Classic this weekend. The Panthers face Texas-Rio Grande Valley Friday and take on North Texas Saturday.

Last Time Out:
> The Panthers opened the season with a resounding 95-73 win over McNeese State Wednesday afternoon. PVAMU has won six straight season-openers.

Storylines to Watch:
> PVAMU looks to halt a three-game skid to Texas-Rio Grande Valley, who holds a 16-2 advantage in head-to-head contests. Meanwhile, this will the third meeting ever between the Panthers and Mean Green.

> Friday's game versus UTRGV will be just the second time the Panthers have played a Western Athletic Conference opponent under head coach Sandy Pugh. The teams last met in 2018 during Pugh's maiden season on PVAMU's sideline.

> Dating back to last season, Rosenthal has scored in double-figures in six of her past nine games.

> With the offensive effort versus McNeese, PVAMU leads the nation in field-goal percentage (62.7) and three-point percentage (56.2).

Scouting the Opponents:
> Texas-Rio Grande Valley has opened the season 3-2 and has held opponents to less than 60 points in two of its three victories. Led by Amara Graham (16.0 PPG, 5.2 RPG in 2020-21), UTRGV has shown itself to be one of the better teams around when it comes to closing strong, as the team has outscored opponents by near 40 points in the fourth quarter (110-78).

> North Texas enters the weekend 2-1 and are coming off an 83-74 win over Louisiana. Quincy Noble has been dynamic for the Mean Green, leading the way in scoring at 19.7 points a night, including a 30-point effort versus Louisville. North Texas is one of the top long-range shooting teams in the country at 42.9 percent from beyond the arc and has crashed the offensive boards very well, averaging more than 13 per game.
