PRAIRIE VIEW – Prairie View A&M Golf, in conjunction with PVAMU Athletics, is excited to announce a two-year partnership with Mustang CAT/Sand Hill Farm Golf Course. As a result, the Sand Hill Farm Golf Course will serve as the official partner and home of the Panthers men's and women's golf programs.
"This is a major move for Prairie View A&M's men's and women's golf programs and our athletics department as a whole," PVAMU Athletics Director Dr. Donald Reed said. "It gives our program a tangible home, and that can be a difference maker as far as being an asset in recruiting, events and more. Given the recent level of success that the program has had, this is going to help Prairie View A&M golf close the gap as the program continues its trek as a rising program within the nation's ranks."
Designed in 2009 by Cypress-based team Jacobsen/Hardy Golf Course Design and located in Waller, Texas, the nine-hole, par-36 family-owned course provides a home base for one of the faster rising HBCU golf powers. Measuring at over 3,600 yards, the course is considered a hidden gem in area golf circles.
"The partnership is going to be wonderful for our kids. It gives us a real opportunity to work on becoming better players," Prairie View A&M Head Golf Coach Kevin Jennings said. "The conditioning of the facility is on par – no pun intended – with courses we've played on or would play on during NCAA Regionals. They have everything at the facility we need to do whatever we need to do to work on every aspect of our game."
As PVAMU golf is looking to build on the unprecedented success of the men's team as well as the quality recruiting classes of the women's team, Jennings echoed Reed's sentiments about how this will help the Panthers continue laying a foundation in hopes of building a golfing power at the HBCU level and beyond.
"As it stands, it's a unique opportunity to move closer to having comparable resources to other athletic programs. It's a step in the right direction," Jennings said. "We're going to be able to get a lot done. I thank (PVAMU Senior Woman Administrator) Alicia Pete and Dr. Reed, as well as the institution for giving us the latitude for this and helping bring this to fruition for our student-athletes."
