PRAIRIE VIEW – Sophomore Claudia Andrea Islas Medina picked up a singles win for Prairie View A&M women's tennis during a Friday home match versus Stephen F. Austin, but it was not enough as the Lady Panthers fell 6-1 to the Ladyjacks.

Medina dominated her opponent to the tune of a 6-2, 6-0 victory.

However, it was the lone bright spot for the Lady Panthers on the day. The Ladyjacks took the early advantage in doubles play, as Medina and freshman Salma Sanchez Villalobos fell 6-2, and junior Jimena Duran Castellanos and freshman Anette Lira dropped a 6-1 match to concede the doubles point. At the time of the clinch, freshman Victoria Fuenmayor Castillo and sophomore Mahogani Green led their match 5-4.

In singles play, Green had the most competitive match but came up short in a 6-4, 6-3 affair. Castillo dropped a 6-2. 6-1 contest, and Villalobos fell 6-1, 6-2. Castellanos was unable to overcome a forgettable first set in a 6-0, 6-3 setback, and Lira was defeated in straight sets as well.

The Lady Panthers head to nearby Beaumont, Texas to face Oral Roberts tomorrow in a neutral site match hosted at Lamar University, whom Prairie View A&M faces Sunday.
