BOX SCORE 1 |
BOX SCORE 2 PRAIRIE VIEW – The quartet of
Victoria Fuenmayor Castillo,
Mahogani Green,
Jessica Lackey and
Ruju Chauhan were the bright spot for Prairie View A&M women's tennis, as they each earned a doubles win during Sunday doubleheader action at Sam Houston State.
Match 1 (SHSU win 6-1):
The Lady Panthers earned the doubles point as Castillo and Green dominated the No. 1 doubles match to the tune of 6-1, and Lackey and Chauhan cruised in the No. 2 doubles match 6-3.
Despite the early advantage, PVAMU could not carry that momentum into singles play as the Bearkats claimed each contest to win match one. Chauhan fought well in the No. 3 singles fray, but after dropping a nail-biter of a first set, she wasn't able to climb back into the matter. Jimena Duran Castellanos played the most competitive singles battle of the day for the Lady Panthers, dropping a 6-4, 6-3 decision in the No. 4 singles match.
Match 2 (SHSU win 7-0):
The Lady Panthers didn't replicate their success from the earlier bout of doubles play, as Sam Houston State took the doubles point despite valiant efforts from Castillo and Green as well as Lackey and Chauhan, who faltered in their doubles matches by scores of 6-3 and 6-2.
In singles play, Green and
Salma Sanchez Villalobos had the best efforts on the Lady Panthers' side, dropping 6-3, 6-1 contests in the No. 2 and No. 5 singles matches, respectively.
PVAMU is back in action Monday at Texas A&M. First serve is at 4 p.m.
