BOX SCORE

PRAIRIE VIEW – It took five sets, but the Prairie View A&M volleyball team (2-0, 1-0 SWAC) opened up Southwestern Athletic Conference play with a win over Grambling State Sunday evening at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center. Set scores were 25-22, 25-19, 19-25, 19-25, 15-6.

"We definitely don't make it easy," PVAMU head volleyball coach TaCho Tyler said. "We got lax and undisciplined in the third and fourth sets and allowed Grambling back in the game. We got back to our style of play and dominated the fifth set. We need to stay disciplined across the board. When we are up, we need to stay up and finish the sets."

Key Stats:

Tamaira Armstrong led the Lady Panthers with 15 kills, six digs, three block assists and two service aces. Victoria Pearson added 11 kills, nine digs and five block assists. Malia Viernes and Thaynara Godoi each put away seven kills, and Kimira Coffee put down six kills. Jakarta Hope put up 19 assists, nine digs and a pair of kills, and Miriam Cardoner chipped in 13 assists. Defensively, Skyla Childs led with 18 digs.

"Truthfully, it's really up to the players to keep the momentum," Tyler said. "We have a game plan. When they execute, we play at a high level. When we get undisciplined, we falter. I believe film will assist them now that we have a few games under our belt."
