Soccer Increases Win Streak to Seven

PRAIRIE VIEW – For the second straight week the Prairie View A&M soccer team's defense was the theme for the night as the Lady Panthers fought to a 6-0 win over the Mississippi Valley State Devilettes on Friday at the PVAMU Soccer Complex.

Prairie View ran their unbeaten streak to seven straight moving them to 9-2-2 overall and 7-0 in conference play. 

Freshman goal keeper, Medinat Lawal has played in the last six contest registering three clean sheets on the season.  As a team the Lady Panthers has registered a total of six shutouts for the season the most in the league. 

How it Happened:
At the 6 minute mark the Lady Panthers scored a goal by Savannah Powell on an assist from Lesa Griffin.  Seven minutes later in the 16th minute senior JoJo Bernal scored her fourth goal of the season with another assist by Griffin.
 
Late in the second half of play at the 60th minute mark senior Renee Carranza scored her first goal of the season off a penalty kick.  Regan Scott followed soon after at the 70th minute mark to score her third goal of the season with an assist from Halee Hernandez.  The final two scores were by Jaiden Morgan who scored her first goal of the season at the 75th minute.
 
Chala posted the last goal at the 82th minute off an assist by Morgan to close out the game and get the 6-0 win.
 
 
Post-Game Note
  • Offensively, the Lady Panthers put together a strong attack, posting a season high of 38 shots, including 18 on goal. 
  • Six different Lady Panthers had goals; Bernal, Powell, Ashley Chala, Carranza, Scott and Morgan.
 
The Lady Panthers will return to PVAMU Soccer Complex for their final two home contest of the regular season, playing host to Alcorn State on Sunday, Oct. 17 for a 1 p.m. contest and Texas Southern Friday, Oct.29 set for a 7 p.m. kickoff, for their Pink Out game.
