SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team had a tough task when visiting the University of San Francisco Thursday, but they worked hard and hung in throughout much of the game in a 92-76 loss to the Dons at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
How it Happened:
The Panthers got behind quickly in the first four minutes of the game, but PVAMU fought right back, scoring seven unanswered points. Prairie View was down by just 10 with under three minutes to play in the half. San Francisco attempted to extend their lead, but a three-pointer by
Jawaun Daniels, would close out the half 42-32 in favor of the Dons.
PV was led by Daniels who scored 25 points on 9-of-19 shooting including 3-of-9 from long distance.
Will Douglas provided a big spark off of the bench for the Panthers, scoring a season high 12 points and added three rebounds along with two assists and two steals.
D'Rell Roberts also provided input off the bench for the Panthers scoring 10 points, with three rebounds, two assists and a steal. PVAMU had a total of 36 points from its bench.
Besides a great all-around effort from Prairie View, San Francisco had four players who reached double-figures in scoring.
PV fell to 0-2 on the season, shooting 29-64 (45.3 percent) from the field for the game and hit 3-of-18 (16.7 percent) from long range. The Panthers hit 15-of-22 (68.2 percent) from the free throw line.
The Panthers will head to Washington, DC for the Coaches against Racism game when they face 6
th ranked and big 10 opponent Michigan, with tip-off set for 7 p.m. inside the Entertainment & Sports Arena. PVAMU will continue on the road playing Oklahoma State (Nov. 14) at 2 p.m., finally returning to Texas to face Texas Tech (Nov. 15) for a 7 p.m. contest, before heading to face GCU at Grand Canyon (Nov. 17) for an 8 p.m. CT tip.
