PHOENIX, Ariz. – Following an almost two week span the Panthers found themselves in a challenging situation falling 91-64 to GCU.
Prairie View A&M has played six games in less than 10 days and still had the ability to fight to the end.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
For the first half the PVAMU gave everything it could handle. The Panthers showed true-grit early on, battling back-and-forth with the Lopes over the opening five minutes of play. PVAMU found themselves down by 12 (30-18), but the pesky Panthers didn't just lay down as they used a 9-0 run to close the first quarter out only down by five (40-35).
In the second half, the Panthers showed the same fight and determination, they put on a display in the opening minutes. The spark seemed to die down after miscues and fouls played an influence on the Panthers run. A 12-1 run by GCU found PVAMU in a bad situation, not being able to catch back up, finding themselves dropping the contest 91-64.
From a Herculean effort by senior guard
D'Rell Roberts, who corralled 18 game-high points and three rebounds to lead the Panthers. Roberts was 7-for-17 and 1-for-4 around the arc.
DeWayne Cox and William Douglas each finished the contest with 10 points apiece.
Jawaun Daniels added nine points shooting 4-for-13 from the field. As a team the Panthers shot 40.0 percent from the field and was 3-for-17 from the three point line. The bright spot for the team was the 81 percent free throw shooting going 13-for-16.
Up Next:
The Panthers will return home for a bit, as they will not resume play until Nov. 27 against Loyola Marymount for a 9 p.m. tip in Los Angeles, Calif.
