PRAIRIE VIEW – Out of a 16 member squad (two out) each of the 14 led a balanced attack to lift the Prairie View A&M women's basketball team to a 83-40 win over the Huston-Tillotson Lady Rams Wednesday night at the William J. Nicks Building.
Everyone on the Panther squad had an opportunity to not only play, but score as well. Three Panthers reached double figures in the scoring column as, junior
Kennedi Heard and freshman
Tierra Simon led PVAMU with 11 points apiece. Heard had three rebounds, while Simon had a career/team high of seven rebounds coming off the bench.
Junior
Diana Rosenthal contributed 10 points and four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Starters
Jessica Soders and
Kennedy Paul added seven points apiece in the win. Soders had a season best of three rebounds, four assist and three steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
PVAMU got off to a sluggish start in the first quarter allowing the Lady Rams to have a four point advantage four times in the contest. Rosenthal was able to close out the quarter with a big three to make it a one-point deficit (17-16).
There was a complete 360 midway through the second quarter has the Panthers took a 22-point half time lead into the break. PVAMU shot 64.7 percent (11-for-17) from the field in just the second quarter.
But, the Panthers still had another half to complete, as they didn't take the breaks off in the third quarter advancing their lead to as many as 35 points at one point. The third session came to an end quickly as the Panthers took a 65-33 leading going into the final round.
The scoring didn't just stop there as the Panthers continued to roll over the Lady Rams with Simon leading the way scoring seven of her 11 points in the fourth quarter to close out the game 83-40.
