PRAIRIE VIEW – Balanced scoring with four players in double figures, assisted the Prairie View A&M women's basketball team to claim a satisfying 80-52 non-conference victory over the Jarvis Christian Bulldogs Saturday afternoon.
Junior
Kennedy Paul led the Panthers (3-8) to their third win of the season with 17 points, two rebounds, three assists and one steal.
"This is the final game leading up to conference and we wanted to come here and polish up some things defensively," said fourth-year head women's basketball coach.  "We still have a ways to go trying to get into a groove.  We have a lot of newness that needs to get polished up and we are still a work in progress.  I thought the kids did some good things and I saw some good things, but we still have to grow as a team and I am happy with the effort."
How it Happened:
The Panthers led from start to finish building an early double-digit lead.  PVAMU only allowed one field goal and two free throws in the opening frame racing out to a 27-4 first quarter lead.

The Lady Bulldogs began to slowly chip into the Panthers lead getting within 16, but PVAMU turned up the heat advancing the deficit to at least 25 to close out the first half of play.

Coming out of the break the scoring frenzy continued as the Panthers continued to add points to take a 30 point lead (64-34).  PVAMU never slowed down and never looked back as they gathered a 36 point lead midway through the fourth quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs went on a 9-0 run, but made the adjustments a little too late falling 80-52 to close out the game.

Brittany Garner earned a season high of 13 points, adding six rebounds, three blocks and one steal.  Junior
Kennedi Heard and sophomore
Gerlyn Smith scored 10 points apiece.  Heard had seven rebounds, seven assists, one block and four steals, while Smith had five rebounds.

In addition to the foursome, PVAMU also got nine points from
Diana Rosenthal, and six points by the player of the game
Jaliyah Harper for her efforts grabbing seven rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal.

"This was a good all-around effort," Pugh said.  We were able to play a lot of people, and put pieces together, but we still have a long road ahead of us."

The Panthers will begin conference play on Monday, January 3
rd when they travel to Grambling, La. for their first Southwestern Athletic Conference road test.  The game is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
