PRAIRIE VIEW – The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team (10-4, 9-0 SWAC) took down Mississippi Valley State 82-62 Thursday night during Southwestern Athletic Conference action at the Baby Dome.
How it Happened:
Despite leading from the opening tip, the Panthers struggled to get on track offensively, shooting just 33 percent from the field during the initial 10 minutes of play. However, the Panthers harassed the Delta Devils into numerous mistakes, cashing in with transition offense.
Business picked up for the Panthers as back-to-back three-pointers keyed a 17-1 run that put the Panthers up by as many as 18. The Delta Devils made a charge to pull within eight, but the Panthers regrouped to carry a 45-30 advantage into the break.
The Delta Devils pulled within nine to begin the second half, but the Panthers refused to let them back in it, as a 20-7 Panthers run ensured victory down the stretch.
Key Stats:
Jawaun Daniels posted 20 points, 12 rebounds and two steals. Cam Mack scored 13 points with six assists and six steals. Boe Nguidjol and Faite Williams scored 11 points each, with Williams adding eight assists. Lenell Henry added 10 points and nine rebounds (seven offensive).
Terry Collins led MVSU with 16 points. Caleb Hunter added 15 points and seven rebounds for the Delta Devils.
Postgame Notes:
- Mack has posted six or more assists in 10 of 11 games this season.
- Daniels has scored in double figures in five straight games.
- PVAMU has won 33 straight home contests, third-longest active streak of its kind in the nation.
