HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team (11-4, 10-0 SWAC) shook off a slow start to outlast Alabama A&M 55-54 during Southwestern Athletic Conference action Saturday evening at T.M. Elmore Gymnasium.
How it Happened:
Down 28-26 at the break, the Panthers fought back thanks to interior scoring, setting off a back-and forth pace in the second half. After the Bulldogs took a 34-32 lead, Boe Nguidjol knocked down a jumper to set off an 8-0 Panther run that resulted in a 42-34 advantage with 11:33 left. After a pair of buckets by Cam Mack and Lenell Henry gave the Panthers a 10-point lead, the Bulldogs scored nine unanswered to pull within one.
Alabama A&M pulled ahead 53-50 with 3:22 left, but Faite Williams converted from close to cut the Bulldogs' lead to one, and D'Rell Roberts delivered a three-point play with 1:43 left to put the Panthers up 55-53. The Bulldogs converted a free throw to pull within one, but the Panthers' defense sealed it late, forcing a trio of turnovers and a missed jumper as time expired to win.
Key Stats:
Jawaun Daniels led PVAMU with 12 points and seven rebounds. Williams added 10 points and five rebounds.
