Missed opportunities cost Panthers in series finale at McNeese

LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Prairie View A&M baseball team (0-4) fell 11-5 in its series finale with McNeese State Sunday afternoon at Joe Miller Ballpark.

How it Happened:
The Panthers struck first in the second inning after Christian Mendez drew a walk and moved to third after an Andrew Garcia single. Mendez later scored on a Zach Trevino single. The Panthers ultimately loaded the bags but were unable to bring any home, and McNeese tied the game with a home run in the bottom half of the inning.

In the third inning, Prairie View A&M reclaimed the lead on a RBI single by Alex Martinez that scored Brayden Johnson. However, the Panthers stranded a pair of runners and McNeese again responded, this time with two runs in the bottom of the frame.

Trevino scored in the fourth inning on a Martinez sacrifice fly to tie the game 3-3, but the Panthers lost their handle on matters as the Cowboys tacked on five runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-3 lead. PVAMU scored one run in the sixth when Sebastian Coria doubled home Tyler Gordon but was thrown out trying to stretch to third, and the Panthers had a big chance in the eighth after a RBI single from Coria brought home Gordon again. However, the Panthers failed to cash in on a bases-loaded situation with one out, and McNeese added three insurance runs in the bottom of the frame.

PVAMU pounded out 10 hits – led by Coria's 3-for-5 day at the plate – but stranded 14 runners over the course of the game. Victor Mendoza shined in relief, allowed five hits and one earned run in 5.0 innings of work while striking out four.
