PRAIRIE VIEW – The Prairie View A&M soccer team fell 2-1 to Incarnate Word Friday night in its season opener at the PVAMU Soccer Complex.
How it Happened:
A defensive struggle early, the Lady Panthers were unable to find many scoring opportunities against the Cardinals, having one shot on goal in the first 1:41 of the game. However, Prairie View A&M was up to the challenge as the Incarnate Word offense began to pressure the net. Goalkeeper Quinn Josiah denied both shots on goal, and Lauren Hermosa found the twine in the 44th minute to give the Lady Panthers the lead.
Unfortunately, the Panthers never manufactured another scoring chance over the second half, and Incarnate Word put up 20 shots – nine on goal – getting two into the net to steal the win.
Postgame Notes:
- Josiah and Alexis Espino combined for nine saves, with Espino making seven during the second half.
- This marks the first home loss for the Lady Panthers against Incarnate Word.
