BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Another day, another season-high.
At least that was the case for
Faite Williams and
Lenell Henry, who reached season-highs in points to power the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team (16-4) to a 75-63 win over Grambling State in the 2021 Cricket Wireless SWC Tournament semifinals.
How it Happened:
Up 34-31 at the break, the Panthers pushed their lead to 14 as Williams and Henry combined to score 12 of the team's first 17 points of the half.
D'Rell Roberts ensured that the Panthers would keep the pedal down, scoring eight points over a two-minute stretch to strengthen the defending champions' stranglehold on the game.
However, the Tigers refused to go quietly, cutting the Panthers' lead to six with just under two minutes to go. Fortunately, the Tigers were forced to foul the rest of the way and Henry, Williams and
Jerroda Briscoe cashed in on their trips to the line to propel the Panthers to the championship game.
Key Stats:
Williams scored a season-high 18 points -- 12 in the second half – and grabbed seven rebounds. Henry added a season-high 18 points and 11 rebounds. Roberts scored 14 points, and Dewayne Cox chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds.
Cameron Christon led Grambling State with 16 points.
Next Up:
