Baseball heads to Southern for pivotal SWAC series

PRAIRIE VIEW – The Prairie View A&M baseball team (4-14, 4-6 SWAC) heads to Baton Rouge for a pivotal Southwestern Athletic Conference series versus Southern (11-17, 9-6 SWAC) beginning Sunday with a pair of nine-inning games.

PVAMU News and Notes:
- Brayden Johnson continues to lead the team in hitting with a .327 average. He's accounted for 17 hits (four extra-base hits), eight RBI and seven runs scored.

- Sebastian Coria may look to replicate his success from the teams' first series this season, where he overwhelmed Southern's pitching by hitting .417 with a pair of home runs, five RBI and seven runs scored.

- The Panthers are 5-3 in their last eight road games versus Southern at Lee-Hines Field.

Scouting Southern:
- Tremaine Spears (.337 BA, 21 R, 31 hits), O'Neil Burgos (.317 BA, 32 hits, 21 RBI) and Judah Wilbur (.300 BA, 30 hits, 18 runs) give the Jaguars a strong triple threat to anchor the lineup while Taj Porter leads the team with five home runs.

- Wilhelm Allen is 3-2 from the mound with a team-best 31 strikeouts. Joseph Battaglia III is 3-1 on the season with a 4.41 ERA and a .269 opponent batting average.
