PRAIRIE VIEW – The Prairie View A&M volleyball team boasts one of the most diverse schedules in program history, as head coach TaCho Tyler announced the team's fall 2021 slate today. The Lady Panthers begin with three tough tournaments as well as six non-conference games, before diving into a 16-game Southwestern Athletic Conference slate.
"We are excited about getting back to work this fall and a full schedule," said Tyler. "Although we made it through the COVID year, I am glad that it is phasing out. I am excited to get back into playing regular season tournaments prior to conference. This schedule will present some interesting challenges, but it also presents some opportunities."
Prairie View A&M opens the season with a tournament at Lamar, facing the University of Louisiana-Monroe and Oral Roberts the weekend of Aug. 27-28 before its home opener versus Southland Conference member Houston Baptist on Tues., Aug. 30 at 6:30 p.m.
PVAMU will open the month of September with tourney play at Houston Baptist on Sept. 3-4, facing Conference USA opponent Louisiana Tech before a return match with Lamar.
The Lady Panthers break from tournament matches with its first-ever meeting versus Big Sky member Eastern Washington on Monday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. at the Baby Dome. PVAMU then visits Huston-Tillotson Sept. 7, and returns to action the following week at McNeese State on Sept. 14 at 6 p.m.
Prairie View A&M's final tournament of the season will feature Ohio Valley's Tennessee State, Northwestern State and host team Texas-Arlington of the Sun Belt conference the weekend of Sept. 17-18.
Prairie View A&M's final non-conference primers will be road tilts at Stephen F. Austin and Abilene Christian on Sept. 21 and Sept. 22, respectively.
League play begins Sept. 26 when PVAMU faces Southern on Sept. 26 before taking on Alcorn State Sept. 27. The games are set for 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
October opens with rivalry play at Texas Southern Oct. 6 for a 6:30 p.m. first serve. Then, the Lady Panthers take on the newest members of the SWAC, as the Lady Panthers will be able to get three matches from Oct. 9-10 in Tallahassee, Fla. There, PVAMU takes on Florida A&M, Bethune-Cookman, and Alabama State.
After a quick trip to Tarleton State on Oct. 14, PVAMU settles in with a five-game home stand, starting with Grambling State (Oct. 17) and SWAC runner-up Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Oct. 18). Southern (Oct. 24), Alcorn State (Oct. 25) and Texas Southern (Oct. 28) will make visits to the Baby Dome as well.
The Lady Panthers will return to the road with a stop at defending league champion Jackson State for a trio of contests against the Lady Tigers, Mississippi Valley, and Alabama A&M Oct. 31- Nov. 1.
PVAMU will close out the regular season versus Huston-Tillotson (date?) before concluding with road matches at Grambling State (Nov. 14) and UAPB (Nov. 15).
The SWAC Women's Volleyball Tournament will be held Nov. 19-21, in Birmingham, Ala.
