PRAIRIE VIEW- Senior
DeWayne Cox dropped a career-high 18 points, and seven different players scored as Prairie View A&M shot their way to an 75-58 Southwestern Athletic Conference victory inside the William J. Nicks Building Monday night.
PVAMU rebounded from a tough loss Saturday against Mississippi Valley to control the game nearly wire-to-wire. The Lions never had an opportunity to lead as the game was never tied and PVAMU kept a steady lead throughout the entire contest. The Panthers scored 21 points off of turnovers and 28 off the bench points, while scoring 42 points in the paint.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Panthers came out with a purpose as they took a 9-1 lead in the first five minutes of play. PVAMU never relinquished their lead even with the Golden Lions chipping away at an 11-point deficit. A layup in the last three seconds prior to the break pushed their lead into double figures (37-27) heading into halftime.
The Panthers shot 48.3 percent for the game, including 7-for-22 (32 percent) from long range. In addition to Cox, PV also got double-digit points from
Jawaun Daniels with 14 and William Douglas with 10.
The second half saw the lead advance to 17 with 15:19 left in the game. For a total of three minutes scoring for both teams went cold.  Douglas finally scored on a layup with 11:21 left in the game still leading UAPB 53-36. The Golden Lions began to chip away at the Panthers, with under seven minutes left , but Prairie View A&M continued to push their lead, giving them 22 points worth of breathing room and never looked back to take the 75-58 victory.
The Panthers will return to action on Saturday, when they face the Jackson State Tigers in Jackson, Miss. Tip-off time is set for 5:30 p.m.
