PRAIRIE VIEW – The Prairie View A&M had a home victory within grasp Saturday night leading almost the entire contest, until Mississippi Valley went on to had the Panthers a 84-82 loss in overtime at the William J. Nicks Building.
Prairie View A&M slipped to 0-3 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference and 0-13 overall. The win game Mississippi Valley (1-12, 1-2 SWAC) the first of the season.
Jeremiah Kendall and
Markedric Bell paced PVAMU in scoring with 21 points apiece. Kendell grabbed 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. William Douglas added 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists, while Jeremiah Gambrell scored 10 points, had four rebounds and five assists.
D'Rell Roberts had nine points and four rebounds for the Panthers, who had a 31-27 edge on the glass.
Roberts hit a 3-pointer with less than 18 seconds to go in regulation to knot the score at 74-74 to take the two teams into overtime.
After each team scored a basket in the overtime, the Panthers jumped on top 80-75. After a couple of layups and some fouls made by key Panthers, who fouled out Mississippi Valley hit two charity tosses with nine seconds left for a 83-82 lead.
The Panthers couldn't get a turnover and the Delta Devils added one more free throw for the final margin.
Prairie View A&M's next action comes on Monday, January 10
th with doubleheader SWAC action when they host Arkansas Pine Bluff at 7:30 p.m. at the Baby Dome.
