SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Prairie View A&M University basketball team couldn't get its shots to fall Tuesday night and couldn't find a answer in surrendering a 82-75 loss to the University of Texas San Antonio in non-conference action.
The Panthers spent the entire second half playing catch-up after falling behind with a halftime score of 36-32.
PVAMU finished the game shooting a season low 40.6 percent from the field, but won a slight battle on the boards, 32-30.
Graduate student Will Douglas led PVAMU with 19 points, including going 7-for-9 at the free throw line. Senior
Jeremiah Gambrell scored 18 points and graduate newcomer Tekorian Smith added 10 points. Nikkei Rutty had a team-best six rebounds.
The Roadrunners grabbed an early lead, but the Panthers kept it close throughout the first half. The two teams knotted the game twice, before UTSA built a four-point lead going into the half.
The score was tied one final time coming out of the intermission (36-36) at 18:41. UTSA continued to expand their lead to 10-points. 54-44, and they showed patience to keep the pace. The Panthers scratched back to a seven-point difference to close out the game.
PVAMU's next action is Friday, evening at Arkansas State in Jonesboro, Ark. At 7 p.m. Nov. 25.
