GULFPORT, Miss. – The No. 2 West seeded Prairie View A&M softball team downs the No. 1 East seeded Bethune- Cookman 5-3 to advance to the semi-finals versus Alabama State on Thursday at 2 p.m. CT.
How it Happened:
- Squared away at 1-1 in the top of the fourth, sophomore Deja Tapia delivered a knock singling down the left field line with one out to plate sophomore Taliya Talley to give PVAMU a 2-1 lead.
- Again the game was tied at 2-2 in the bottom of sixth, but the Wildcats were able to take their lead back making the score 3-2.
- In the top of the seventh with two outs Biviana Figueroa's clutch hit was one of two for the Lady Panthers to jump back on top with a two-run lasher shot over the right field fence to give PVAMU a 4-3 advantage.
- The blast triggered a domino effect as Jaylyn Davis made sure that the Lady Panthers secured the bag with a solo home run over the centerfield fence into the wooded area behind the stadium her 10th of the season.
- Jerrica Rojas (4-4) earned the win, while Cailin Massey (S-1) received the save.
- The Lady Panthers pounded out seven hits in the win, Figueroa led the offense going 2-for-4 with three RBI's. Davis also went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
The Lady Panthers will continue play when they face Alabama State at 2 p.m. in the semi-finals on Thursday, May 12. A PVAMU win would give them an automatic bid to the Championship game on Friday, May 13 at 2 p.m.
