PRAIRIE VIEW – After a one and half hour lightening delay the Prairie View A&M University soccer team dropped its regular season opening match to Stephen F. Austin Friday night at the PVAMU Soccer Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- SFA struck early scoring a goal in the two minute mark. The Ladyjacks added to their lead in the 11th minute and scoring a final time in the first half at the 35th minute.
- The Lady Panthers stiffened the defense in the second half not allowing SFA to score again, but it wasn't enough to get the win.
- PVAMU was able to get five shots off (3 in the first, 2 in the second half).
- The Lady Panthers net minders had seven total saves.
- Jaiden Morgan led the team with two shots with one on goal
- Kamara Bradley also took two shots in the game.
"It's hard to recover from being down three goals," said new head coach
Christiane Lessa. "It's hard to remain unbeaten when you give up easy goals. I think we had some chances in the second half to pull level, but we couldn't finish our chances. They capitalized a lot on their opportunities and looked to have less unforced errors than we did."
This is definitely a hurdle for the team," she said. "I think they're going to bounce back. We're looking to rebound well against Texas A&M Corpus Christi. It's another team I feel we can win against. We just have to finish our chances and not give up the ball. We're looking for another good game."
The Lady Panthers will travel to Corpus Christi on Sunday with the match against the Islanders slated for a 1 p.m. CT start.
"This season's not easy," said Lessa. "It's long, but we'll get through it. I think the girls want it and we deserve some wins, but we have to go out and finish some games first."
