Prairie View A&M secures 69-65 victory against Jackson State on fourth-quarter comeback

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team fought back from a 47-41 deficit after the third quarter to take down the Jackson State Lady Tigers 69-65 at home Saturday.

The Panthers (7-9, 4-1) had four players score in double figures, led by Diana Rosenthal, who had 12 points and four steals. Mikayla Hutchinson tacked on 12 points and two steals off of the bench and Nyam Thornton chipped in as well with 12 points and six assists.

The Prairie View A&M offense was strong from deep, knocking down nine threes on 27 attempts. Hutchinson hit three treys for the Lady Panthers in the contest.

Prairie View A&M forced 27 Jackson State turnovers while committing 11 themselves in Saturday's game. The Panthers turned those takeaways into 17 points on the other end of the floor. Rosenthal's four steals led the way for Prairie View A&M.

How It Happened

Prairie View A&M kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 11-9.

Jackson State kept adding to that lead, building a 17-14 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 5-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Desiree Lewis, to take a 19-17 lead. The Lady Tigers then came roaring back to take a 31-26 lead heading into halftime.

Jackson State continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 39-30 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 5-0 run to trim its deficit to 39-35 with 4:55 to go in the third. Jackson State countered and stretched its lead to 47-41 heading into the fourth. Prairie View A&M knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 15 total points.

Prairie View A&M came out of the third quarter break clicking on all cylinders, going on a 9-0 run to seize a 50-47 lead with 7:47 to go in the contest. The Panthers kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 69-65 win. Prairie View A&M got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring 10 of its 28 total points.
