D'IBERVILLE, Miss – The Prairie View A&M women's bowling team got its first exposure against Southwestern Athletic Conference foes during the west round up over the weekend at Cypress Lanes.

"This was one of the most competitive SWAC roundups that we've had in a long time," said head women's bowling coach Glenn White.  "The level of competition from match to match was fierce and I can't be more proud of how the team responded and performed throughout the weekend.  I believe that the team has matured this weekend and we want to continue maturing and getting better as we move through the season."

Overall the Lady Panthers went 9-5 with a third place finish out of the eight teams in attendance.  The team totaled a 13, 285 pin fall and a 189.8 average during traditional play.

Senior Stephanie Vasquez was the top bowler for the Lady Panthers with a 2,926 total pin fall out of 14 games and a 209.00 average.  Vasquez has a third-place top spot in individual play.  Victoria Cobos is next with a 2,388-pin fall and 199.00 average after participating in only 12 games.  Freshman Jayda Gordon is one of the top players in the freshman class as she averaged 193.00 with a total pin fall of 2,316 in her debut in SWAC action.

The Lady Panthers garnished their nine wins over Texas Southern (1038-818), Jackson State (951-902), Southern (938-927), Grambling State (886-803), Alabama State (1037-963), Texas Southern (1,056-1,012), Jackson State (918-848), Florida A&M (970-960), and Grambling State (873-709).

The five matches that the teams had losses to was Alabama State (884-1092), Alabama A&M (878-911), Florida A&M (905-948), Alabama A&M (1,003-1,020) and Southern (948-1,105).

The Lady Panthers will return to lanes January 27-29, when they host the Prairie View A&M Invitational at the ITRC in Arlington, Texas.
