Panthers total seven sacks in 31-12 win against Mississippi Valley State

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --The Prairie View A&M defense racked up seven sacks to help the Panthers to a 31-12 win over Mississippi Valley State at home Saturday night.

The Panthers improved to 3-3 on the year and 3-1 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, while the Delta Devils fell to 0-5 and 0-2.

Trazon Connley led Prairie View A&M's passing attack with 259 yards through the air, tossing two touchdowns without throwing an interception. The signal caller also added 32 yards and one touchdown on the ground.

Connor Wisham totaled 75 yards to lead the Panthers' ground attack and added one touchdown in the game, picking up 12.5 yards per carry along the way. Jamarious Brooks also tacked on 53 yards on the ground, picking up 13.2 yards per carry.

Jahquan Bloomfield pulled in three catches for 94 yards. Shemar Savage made his presence felt in the passing game, recording two receptions for 83 yards and one touchdown.

Jamal Marshall showed out for the Prairie View A&M defense, recording four tackles, 2.0 TFL, and two sacks. Derrick Ray added five tackles, 2.0 TFL, and one sack, while Cj Pressley had five tackles, 1.0 TFL, and one sack in the win.

Prairie View A&M had a big showing on the ground, racking up 220 rushing yards while averaging 6.5 yards per carry and out-rushing Mississippi Valley State by 172 yards. The Prairie View A&M offense did a good job keeping drives alive, converting on 69.2 percent of third-down attempts.

Prairie View A&M's defense held up against Mississippi Valley State's offense, giving up 275 total yards. The Panther's defense took up residence in Mississippi Valley State's backfield all game, racking up seven sacks.

How It Happened

Prairie View A&M took a 3-0 lead over Mississippi Valley State after scoring the game's first points on the opening drive of the game. Mississippi Valley State then tied it up at 3-3 before the Panthers responded with a 74-yard touchdown reception from Connley to Savage to retake the lead at 10-3.

Prairie View A&M kept Mississippi Valley State off the scoreboard and extended its lead to 17-3 with 3:45 left in the second quarter. The Panthers continued to add to their lead after Mississippi Valley State closed the gap to 17-6, scoring again to go on top 24-6.

Prairie View A&M kept building its lead, scoring again with 9:12 remaining in the fourth quarter to go up 31-6. Prairie View A&M didn't score again and Mississippi Valley State added six more points to finish off the game.
