RICHMOND, KY --Brian Myles and Andre Nunley both recorded double-doubles to help lead the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team past the UT Martin Skyhawks 78-66 at Baptist Health Arena Sunday.
The Panthers (3-2) had five players score in double figures, led by Charles Smith IV, who had 18 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals. Myles tacked on a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds and Felix, Jr.,Chris helped out with 12 points.
Prairie View A&M did an excellent job taking care of the basketball, dishing out 17 assists while turning the ball over eight times. Nunley's four assists paced the Panthers.
The Prairie View A&M defense held UT Martin shooters to only 36.2 percent from the field, including 30 percent from three-point range.
How It Happened
After falling behind 30-27, Prairie View A&M went on a 7-0 run with 1:52 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Nick Gazelas, to take a 34-30 lead. The Panthers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 35-32 advantage.
Following intermission, Prairie View A&M kept widening that lead, expanding it to 66-61 before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Nunley's layup, to grow the lead to 74-61 with 1:07 to go in the contest. The Skyhawks narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Panthers still cruised the rest of the way for the 78-66 win. Prairie View A&M made the most of six offensive rebounds to tack on eight second chance points out of 43 total in the period.
