CEDAR FALLS, IA --The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team got a 19-point showing from the bench, but fell 74-55 to the Northern Iowa Panthers on the road Tuesday.
The Panthers (4-5) had three players score in double figures, led by Javontae Hopkins, who had 13 points and eight rebounds. Kevin McGaskey tacked on 11 points and two steals off the bench and Felix, Jr.,Chris helped out with 10 points and two steals.
Hopkins pulled down five offensive rebounds to pace the Prairie View A&M offense which grabbed 10 boards and turned them into 14 second-chance points.
The Prairie View A&M defense was a problem in Tuesday's game, forcing 16 Northern Iowa turnovers while committing 13. Those takeaways turned into 14 points on the other end of the floor. Andre Nunley led the way individually for the Panthers with two steals.
How It Happened
Prairie View A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 38-23 heading into halftime.
Northern Iowa kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 52-33 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 7-0 run, finished off by McGaskey's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 52-40 with 9:13 to go in the contest. Northern Iowa responded and outscored the Panthers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 74-55. Prairie View A&M took care of business in the paint, recording 16 of its 32 points in the lane.
