HOUSTON, TX --The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team got a 20-point performance from the bench, but fell 82-56 to the Rice Owls on the road Wednesday.
The Panthers (5-6) had three players score in double figures, led by Javontae Hopkins, who had 16 points. Nick Gazelas added 11 points and Kevin McGaskey chipped in as well with 11 points and three steals off the bench.
Prairie View A&M forced 13 Rice turnovers while committing only nine themselves in Wednesday's game. The Panthers turned those takeaways into 20 points on the other end of the floor. Brian Myles' three steals led the way for Prairie View A&M.
How It Happened
Prairie View A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 35-21 heading into halftime.
Rice kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 47-28 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Hopkins' three, to shrink the deficit to 47-36 with 12:47 to go in the contest. Rice responded and outscored the Panthers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 82-56. Prairie View A&M took care of business in the paint, recording 18 of its 35 points in the lane.
