GRAMBLING, LA --The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team got a 21-point showing from the bench, but fell 68-64 to the Grambling Tigers on the road Monday.
The Panthers (9-17, 5-8) had two players score in double figures, led by Yahuza Rasas, who had 25 points and nine rebounds. Jeremiah Gambrell added 12 points from the bench and Will Douglas added nine points and two steals.
Led by Nikkei Rutty's five offensive rebounds, Prairie View A&M did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 19 boards that resulted in 13 second chance points.
The Prairie View A&M defense was a problem in Monday's game, forcing 15 Grambling turnovers while committing 14. Those takeaways turned into 15 points on the other end of the floor. Douglas' two steals led the way individually for the Panthers.
How It Happened
After falling behind 24-18, Prairie View A&M went on an 8-0 run with 7:22 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Gambrell, to take a 26-24 lead. The Panthers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 35-34 advantage. Prairie View A&M capitalized on nine Grambling turnovers in the period, turning them into 11 points on the other end of the floor.
Grambling proceeded to take a 51-46 lead before Prairie View A&M went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Rasas' layup, to seize a 52-51 lead with 7:21 to go in the contest. Grambling re-asserted control, outscoring the Panthers 17-12 the rest of the way to hand Prairie View A&M the 68-64 loss. Prairie View A&M took care of business in the paint, recording 16 of its 29 points in the lane.
