Baseball Falls to Florida A&M After Seventh Inning Score

NEW ORLEANS, La. --Though they had plenty of opportunities, Prairie View A&M had a hard time cashing them in, leaving 10 Panthers on base in a 6-4 loss at the hands of the Florida A&M Rattlers on Sunday.

Junior Michael Dews (0-1) got the ball to start for Prairie View A&M (1-6) and took the loss.

Senior Zachary Trevino led the way offensively for the Panthers, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a double and two RBI. Senior Alex Martinez put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-4 with a double, a walk, and an RBI. Sophomore Benjamin Ybarra also contributed, going 1-for-3 for Prairie View A&M with two walks and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers were trailing 2-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Prairie View A&M got on the board thanks to Trevino's RBI double.

The Panthers kept the Rattlers off the board before tying it up in the fifth. Junior Antoine Mays came across to score the lone run of the inning for Prairie View A&M, which brought the score level to 2-2.

Florida A&M broke that tie and grabbed a 3-2 lead moving into the seventh when Prairie View A&M grabbed the advantage at 4-3. The Panthers notched two runs off of Florida A&M pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double from Martinez. The Panthers were unable to hold the lead, as Florida A&M scored three times over the remaining two innings to grab the 6-4 win.
